Intermittent Warning Noise from Throttle

I have a 1991 Mercury 115 outboard (white lettering, red, grey and white stripes). I have distinct warning noise coming from the throttle (beep, beep, beep). I was out on a lake this past Sunday and everything was fine all morning. Then, I started heading back to the dock in the early afternoon and after about 30 seconds, I started hearing the warning noise. I turned the motor off, let it sit for awhile, tried it again and same thing... beep, beep, beep. I even hear the noise when I just turn the key a quarter before starting up the engine. I haven't looked at anything in particular yet. FYI – I did have a similar noise a few weeks ago, but it was not as clear of a beep, beep, beep. It was kinda muffled or inconsistent. It sounded like a noise you might hear if there was a bad connection in the electrical wiring. I only heard that noise when accelerated to get up on a plane. Once on the plane, the noise went away. I realized I was getting low on oil, so I filled up the oil reservoir in the motor and I didn't hear that noise again. I'm wondering if if someone can help with the noise I have now, maybe give me a checklist of things to look at or test. Thanks in advance for your help!

welcome aboard,
warning buzzer is telling you the motor is not
getting enough oil or is overheating. keep an eye
on oil consumption to make sure it's mixing
properly. when was the last time you had the L/U
serviced and installed a new impeller? may be time.
it could also be a bad sensor and there is no
problem at all, just change the sensor.
good luck,
M.Y.

If you are going to run the engine, premix your gas until you figure out the problem. With the engine cover off, fell the head, block to get an idea of temp. Beep -Beep is oil related, constant beeeeeeeep in heat releated. Check the float in the onboard oil tank, remove the cap and see if moving the float up and down makes it go away. If the tank is full of oil, loosen the cap slightly and see if oil is moving into the tank, it should overflow . Next would be to figure out if you oil pump is working, lot of post on how to check it. Just do a search.

Re: Intermittent Warning Noise from Throttle

I checked to see if the oil is going through the transparent tubes that connect my oil pump and fuel pump. It looks like oil is going through the tubes just fine. The engine temp. feels normal and the water peas out of the back like it's supposed to. I know the guy who I bought the boat from replaced all the wiring with 6 gauge wires, but he did it himself, so it's possible a wire might be loose somehwere. I'm wondering if a simple bad connection of wires could be the cause?? Is that possible?
