Intex Excursion 5 began deflating on the water

We took out our Intex Excursion 5 this morning for a brief morning of fishing. The boat was inflated to regulation, and we headed out. After about 30 minutes, we realized that chamber 3 was losing air. We assumed maybe we hadn't inflated it enough and continued on...but stayed relatively close to shore. After a few more minutes our trolling motor and mount was sinking farther and farther into the water. We took the boat on in. The water was around 53 degrees. Any ideas on what could have happened? We have never had problems before.

If the other chambers weren't reducing by the same amount I would conjecture you have/had a pinhole leak somewhere? I would inflate and use soapy water to detect where the leak is originating from.

Re: Intex Excursion 5 began deflating on the water

been absent for some time on this forum having played around with kayaks for a time. I still have my Intex Excursion which I had modified with hard deck, motor mount struts e.t.c. Still trying to sell without much luck, But I digress.......these PVC boats are easily punctured and even the tiniest of splinters can cause a slow leak, luckily because of the three chambers, you should be okay getting back in on two of them. If inflated on the dock and the water temperature is low, you will notice the need to top off after only a few minutes. OTOH, if you are continually having to do that, then you more than likely have a leak somewhere. Last year I had to patch it three times and all were on the bottom. Now when retrieving, I lay down a plastic sheet on the dock unless I am beaching in soft sand, and even then am careful to inspect the terrain for anything that might cause a puncture.
