Hi so i've just bought an intex seahawk II, and a little yamaha 2b 6a1 2hp, weight 10kg.

took it out yesterday, the engine seems to hang really low in the water, i have adjusted the mount to maximum height too, the engine will only run at about half revs, any higher and it Tilts diagnal alot, sinks lower and seems to choke itself.
its that low the holes near the top of the shaft that eject the water coolant are submerged.
I've sat at the back of the engine and held it up out the water and it goes full throttle no problems. so guess its jst a height issue

any ideas what i can do i please

Re: Intex Motor Mount Issues help/advice please

I've got the same boat with a 3.5 Johnson, and had a shorty Sea Eagle before that with a similar setup. These small transomless boats really don't handle outboards altogether well, but the Seahawk did do a better job by far. I always put the motor mount as high as it will go, and pushed the top rails forward so that the second set of holes would engage the mount on the boat. This has to be done before fully inflating the boat or it won't work. Don't be afraid to make your own new wood motor mount with holes drilled where they need to be, the cavitation plate on the outboard should be the lowest point on the craft (Under power) and the board may need to stick way up to accomplish this. If I recall I re-drilled mine. Also set the trim on the outboard up high so that under load the outboard winds up perpendicular to the water suface. On my Seahawk the prop is just below the surface at idle, and I have to keep an eye on it to make sure it's pulling water in for cooling. Shifting my weight to the back during idle helps to stick the prop in another 2 to 3 inches - just for peace of mind.

What made a huge difference for me was the plastic dolphin fin gizmo I put on the cavitaion plate, but to be honest they are expensive new. I happened to get lucky and find one at a garage sale for $15 or so. It really lifts the rear end and prevents the motor from trying to torque under the boat. I highly reccomend it if you can get a deal on one somewhere.

Ultimatley these tiny lightweight crafts can be a lot of fun, I've used my Seahawk a lot and it will take abuse and running around under power all day in the hot sun. But they are sensitive to weight and I had to get used to listening to the motor. Just leaning forward to pick out a new fishing lure is enough to pop the prop out of the water for a moment.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks Chris for the info. Although I will use a different boat & motor combination, seems good info for any combo.
