Re: "Iron Duke"?

I don't know about the marine application of iron duke, but as I recall in the 70's Chevy Vega had a four banger aluminium block, (not very successful). I think they had recalls and they were replaced with a four cylinder cast iron block called the Iron Duke.

Actually the 153 chevrolet engine used in the Novas in the late 60's was not the Iron Duke engine. The Iron Duke engine was the 2.5 four cylinder used in the Pontiac Fiero. The engines look simular but aren't the same.

Re: "Iron Duke"?

Well,
I could be Wrong, Again... :D
I've heard it told that the Original "Iron Duke",
Was the engine found in the GP truck used by the US Forces in WWII.....
The Jeep Engine.......
It was in production from Before WWII, till AMC went under... Before Chrylser ended up with the "Jeep" name.......
The Name "Iron Duke" has been used by Alot of people, for Alot of engines......
Mostly the Boaters, Racers,+ Chevy Nuts calling the 153/181cids the Iron Duke.......

So, It's more of a "term of endearment?"
Than "a marketing term"
And Powerglide IS the name of the old Chevy 2-Speed Automatic Trannies.........

MY,
You Could do a Lot of Searches.....
I Don't Think you'll Ever find it to be AnyBody's "advertising".........

It's a Nickname,
Bestowed upon it by Enthusiasts who use it...... :)

I Think............ :D
