My tachometer frequently gives a false reading, usually higher than it should. I was told it might be due to the voltage regulators going bad. Can anyone offer any suggestions on this problem.

Your going to want to have this checked out.

If it is a rectifier going out that can cause problems. I would have static test of all ignition components done.

I don't know much but I did sleep in a Holiday in last night.....Welcome to iboats someone smart will be along shortly to help in the mean time try the search button.....welcome to iboats.

Holiday Inn *EXPRESS*.

He's right... get this checked. Eliminate loose wires yourself if you wish.

-W

Hope the folks who originally replied to this will check. I have a similar problem on a 1996 Mariner 115. Usually the tach works fine with a WOT of 5200RPM. Occasionally the tach will run high with an idle of 1100RPM and a WOT of 6400RPM. Seeing as though I didn't become a hydrofoil or reach a low earth orbit I figured the tach had a bad indication. Would a "static test" be a simple test of the wires via checking for shorts and bad connections on the rectifier? I've seen a couple threads on this but one went by way of spun prop this one was closest to my situation. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
