Looking at a '78 Ford F250. It's in need of 4 new tires, but it has 16.5 rims, = expensive tires, not many used out there. I've got a Chevy van with 8 lug 16"... Are Ford and Chevy the same lug pattern?

Getting ready to ditch the van so don't care.

You didn't say what year chebby but it's a 99% chance that they're both 8X6.5". That's 8 lugs in a 6.5" circle. With even numbered hubs it's east to measure, simply run a tape measure across the lugs and measure center to center (of the studs) across the middle of the hub.

PS only thing that might differ is the offset, but it'll likely work. That and sometimes they use 16.5" wheels because a 16" won't clear the brakes or some other mechanical part.

Good luck! Worst case bring a wheel and tire and put it on the hub, see if it clears.

The only place you will find any difference is the opening that goes on disc brakes. The older wheels would not go up to the hub if they were made for drum type brakes. I don't rember when they changed all that so to be safe I would get at least an 88 or newer wheel.

If the wheels are aftermarket its 99.9% that they will fit. Chevies will almost always fit Fords. Fords will always fit Chevies IF you open the center hole. Ford uses a tight fit in the center to help center the wheel. We have torched the centers out to make it work without any problems.

What KB said about the hub hole. BTDT, Usually Chevy to Ford, but not the other way unless you enlarge the hole.
