I'm not exactly sure which model it is. It is 5.25m long, (17ft) with a closed cabin at the front, it came with a 120HP force initially.

The force's tilt has broken and I have a 2006 90HP mercury laying around, I was thinking I could put the 90HP on the Bayliner.

Would this be underpowered? Bad move?

if the max hp rating for the boat was 120, it SHOULD be ok with a 90 if its not water logged or has had weight adding mods done to it. if its rated for 150hp....90hp wont really make the grade. jmo

If the Merc is a 4 cylinder 90, I think you will find that it is close in power to the 1992 Force. It should move that Bayliner at a decent clip. You may need to experiment with a couple of different pitched props though. For example: If the 120 had a 17 pitch prop, start there with the Merc. Then, if it doesn't come up to WOT operating RPM, try a 15 pitch.

Years back I ran a 19' Glastron with a 80 hp Merc. Not a race boat for sure but adequate for my family.
