Just cleaned out probably 25 years of gunk from powerjet system on 5hp Mariner, after fun row from a mile out against wind and tide after it died from blockage. I am too #*@**#@# old for this!

Was wondering if it's worthwhile putting an inline filter in hose between portable tank and motor?

Yes.
The best ones, are those inline glass filters with interchangeable elements, that can be purcased anywhere, including Walmart.
They are cheap, and your survival kit can include a spare element (mine does).
These little filters aren't restrictive at all, and I have one on my 7.5P Merc, with no ill effects. Just insure you get a good seal at the fittings, which is the hardest part.
and steer-clear of the REAL cheap ones, as they have nylon fittings. Yuo can use them, but don't use the fittings that comes in the box---Get brass fittings (available at all auto partz stores.
