Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has agreed in principle to a landmark $99.2 million, seven-year contract that will pay him a league-record $14.17 million annually, ESPN.com has learned through league sources.

I think I need to renegotiate my contract...

He just doomed his team to never win the superbowl. They won't have the cap room get any other worthwhile players, and they will be doomed to mediocrity. Over 885 thousand dollars a game, in which he may touch the ball 50 times, over 17 thousand every time he lays his hand on the ball, whether he throws it or hands it off.

Just can't see it...

Thank MY, no one is safe from my solicitation. In order to qualify as a non-profit they have to give a lot away and I know just the cause. :)

That's one reason I don't care for sports.
Nobody in sports is worth that. Not by a long shot.

Pay someone that deserves it like a surgeon or someone who actually makes a difference in our lives.

Sports of today are a joke. Plain and simple.

'Nuff said.

H.

Can anyone here actually comprehend that kind of money?

Remember the first episode of the Beverly Hillbillies?

"I've heard of U.S. dollars, and confederate dollars, but this here fella wants to give us sumpin called 'million' dollars."

I was kind of hoping that the Michael Jordan economic theory would take over sports. He took a pay cut so they could pay other premium players and therefor have a winning tradition.

He then parleyed this tradion into $$ hawking shoes and underwear and coke a cola.

To bad, the dollars do taint the image of sports figures. Remember when we used to call them sports hero's. Where are you now Joe DiMaggio?

If somebody's paying it, he's worth it. That's a free market economy. If he weren't worth it, they wouldn't pay it. I promise you that if no one watched this sport, he wouldn't get that kind of money.

Personally, that's why I don't care to watch any professional sports. They get these guys that look like they're genetic mutants and pay them absurd salaries for what?

Nope! Not for me. But, I love to watch high school football and basketball. They look like relatively normal kids.

True Joe...

High school sports are still traditional.
Again, I don't watch sports, but if I had to?... It would be school sports.

There are no such things as "sports heroes" anymore. How many of them eventually get busted for this drug bust or that?

Any money corrupts. Doesn't matter who you are.

These guys are talented yes, but there's no way he's worth it (imo). Too bad the people who are paying him all that money can't see there's other problems in this world that far outweigh the need to grossly over-pay sports figures.

I guess if you have that kind of money to throw away... Your money... Your loss.

H.

Not to mention the fact that these thick skulled slabs of meat are taking up valuable space in the halls of academia; if they are able to keep up with the academic end thats fine, if not, boot em out.
Never happen in a million years, just thought I would rant about it

Eurolarva hit the nail on the head. these team owners want the cities to pay for the stadiums etc. when theyre making these kind of contracts with players. who cares where these jamoaks play? i will vote against any politician who goes along with this. if i wanted to build a business in thier city,,would they build me a plant??
