I have a 90 merc with external tilt motor and rigged it up to a newer throttle control, it works great, but I am worried because there is no limit switch, I can put the motor all the way up or down and the motor keeps trying to push it farther, is this bad or should I just be really careful

I have yet to be on a boat where the trim motor didn't try to push the engine farther than it can go.

Dan

Hi Fox,
The only thing that you have to do is listen to the pump motor and when the pitch of the running motor gets lower let off of the switch so you don't overload the seals and motor. There is a overload switch in the motor, but by the time it opens it is usually to late and you have overheated the motor windings. Don't worry it is easy to tell when the pump motor loads up and it is time to let go of the switch.
