Hey all, Ok so I got everything completed. New impeller, manifolds, risers, thermostat housing and thermostat, all new hoses along with all new ignition stuff while the manifolds were out. Fired it up for the first time today and she fired right up great but I'm not sure I'm cooling properly. Using muffs with adequate pressure. Water is getting to the pump and then up to the thermostat housing (I left the hose loose at the Tstat housing while it was running and water was leaking out) so I know water is getting to the Tstat housing but not sure it's getting anywhere else. I'm not getting any water coming out of the prop or anywhere else and I pulled the plugs at the bottom of the manifolds and no water came out. I'm new to this so don't know where I'm supposed to see water come out at the outdrive and for how long I have to run it to get the water to circulate. I ran it for only a few minutes before shutting it off for fear of overheating. Maybe I didn't run it long enough? Any insight is most appreciated. Thanks

Do you have the hoses hooked up correctly? Hose from back of transom to raw water/circulating pump and the one that runs to T-stat housing? If they are not hooked up corectly that could be a start?

I've got the hoses on right I'm pretty sure.... Inside hose is supply from the transom and outside is hose that runs up to tstat housing. I just fired it up again... Pulled the hose from the tstat housing supplying the starboard manifold and no water... Then pulled the hose from the pump to the tstat housing, water runs but I'm not sure this is enough pressure??? I took a video to illustrate...

Is this enough flow??? Really strange since everything is new... New impeller, new tstat housing, all hoses. everything!!! I did notice that the pump may have a slight leak, I'm thinking at the bearing but hard to tell at this point. Could it be a bad pump? Should it be pumping more than this? I read somewhere that there's supposed to be 2"-4" of head pressure but not sure what this means and how to measure this...

More and more i read and think about it, the raw water pump may likely be the culprit. I've read that if it's leaking it will also suck in air which will reduce flow. But, I'm still not sure of the flow I have (shown in the video) is low or normal. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks

You mention a leak on the pump! I don't want to sound condescending, but did you remove the OLD "O" ring from the pump housing when you replaced the impeller? If you did, then the slight leak means the seal will have gone. Easily replaced and cheap, while you are in there the bearing is well worth replacing at the same time. Remove the whole pump by removing the 3 Allen headed screws that secure it to the harmonic balancer, and fix it on the bench. Plenty of posts on here about the seal and bearing numbers to buy from auto suppliers.

Thanks for the reply dypcdiver. This is the Johnson style pump so the only o-ring is on the shaft not the housing. That o-ring I'm not sure is accessible without completely rebuilding the pump and since it's almost 20 years old I just decided to replace it. There are grooves on the housing cover and inside the housing also so that's another reason I'm just gonna replace it.

Bumping this. Anyone have any opinion on the flow in the video? Look normal or not? Thanks

Not normal. Your sucking air somewhere. It should have a constant flow, not the off and on you have.

Got the new pump in today and fired her up and she ran beautifully and pumped perfect. All fixed. Thanks all for the feedback.
