I already have the stator removed because I needed to replace the rectifier. I don't want to open a can of worms, if you know what I mean, but if it's a good thing to do on an old motor why not. Any thoughts ?

Pretty simple. You'll have to splice a couple of wires. Otherwise its plug and play.

You're already there so go ahead and service it. May save you some probs down the road.

Yeah, what wires??? I just unscrewed 4 bolts, lifted TB up. It looked fine (clean - no crap). Screwed 4 RETAINING BOLTS back in. Took me 5 minutes after I decided to go for it

There are two wires that tie into the main harness on the plugs that go to the power packs. They do not have their own connector and will need to be spliced into the harness unless you pull the pins from the plug set.

The last two I did need to be spliced in and it shows that in the wiring diagram. That is early 80's though and they may have changed it later although the wiring diagram for that year does show a wire on the TB side of the connector that must tie into the primary harness.
