i have a 1989 dt85 suzuki outboard and years ago i rebuilt the carbs. how important is it to re sync the carbs after removing? what tool do i need? i'm about to remove them again and was just wondering.

You sync them to make sure they all start opening at the same time and at the same rate. Also to sync the timing to this. You just need "some tools", the service manual will have the details.

i understand.. but is it very important? will my fuel economy decrease? will it ruin the engine? i don't want to spend a lot of money on a tach and the sync tool..... thanks, ken

If you didnt do anything other then snap off the plastic on the linkage, that is if you didn't loosen any of the adjustments, you shouldn't need to re-sinc the carbs. To rebuild the carbs, all you would need to do is snap off the black plastic linkage, then pull the carbs to rebuild. If you moved any of the adjustments, then you need to re-sinc.

that's just it... i didn't adjust anything so why should i have to resync the carbs?

If you are having some sort of problems it would be one of the things to do to make sure everything is adjusted correctly

i had a problem but it's been fixed: the carbs needed cleaning. runs like a bat out of hell now. but i was just wondering if it was REALLY necessary to resync the carbs after cleaning... thanks.
