I have a new to me 2004 Crownline 192br with 4.3 L Mercruiser. When I turn the key to on position, a warning horn starts sounding. When turned further to the start position it continues to sound. Upon the engine cranking, the sound discontinues. Is this normal during starting the engine?

Depends on the sensors, most have the hi engine temp, no oil pressure, and low outdrive oil.If the alarm stops with the engine running it is most likely the no oil pressure switch/ Once it sees oil pressure the alarm stops.

It's almost certainly normal. The alarm is sounding for the lack of oil pressure, since the motor is not running. Only worry about the alarm if it sounds while the engine is running.

My boat sounds whenever the key is in the run position, but not started. It's a Volvo 4.3, but same idea.
