Is it okay to use a different type of thrust washer that came in replacement hub kit?

I'm replacing a damaged prop and bought a Flo Torq 2 hub kit that, according to the guide on the quicksilver box that the propeller came it, is the right hub kit for my 1998 mercury force 120HP outboard; however the hub kit says Yamaha on it. The splines line up correctly and the hub kit fits into the prop fine, but there are some differences between the kit that came with it and the old hardware.

1. The style of thrust washer is different. The old thrust washer (which worked fine) is flat on one side, and raised on the other. The one that came with the kit has an additional raised area where the old one was flat, therefore it's thicker. Otherwise seems to fit fine. Should I use the thrust washer that came with the kit or my old thrust washer?

2. The old hub had one of the circular metal locking keys where you bend the tabs in to lock the prop in place. The new kit has a slotted nut with the cotter key, which doesn't fit on my prop shaft. What should I do to compensate for this?

I've replaced a prop but in the past they have had the hub kit already installed and I didn't replace the thrust washer. Any help would be great, thanks!

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Generally speakin', the thrust hub has to match the prop, more so than the drive,....

With #2, ya gotta use whatever will work with yer prop shaft,....
I sure as 'ell wouldn't drill it for a cotter pin,....

OR... maybe a new tab washer... since eventually the tabs break off after they've been bent and straightened a few times. IF the old one is not cracked at where you bend it its fine.

Just something to look at to make sure you don't lose the prop.

Okay I will use the new thrust washer even though it's different than the old one. One the tabbed washer / cotter key, I can't really use either because the new hub inside the prop doesn't have the space to push the tabs down into. And I can't use the new cotter key because my prop shaft doesn't have any hole.

Is it okay to just not use this piece? It seems redundant if I have the propeller nut properly tightened.

Thanks all for your help.

The tab washer goes behind the prop nut and the tabs are bent out into the notches or flats on the prop nut.
