Hello All,

I am curious as to know if it is possible to make a bow mount trolling motor out of a transom mount motor. What if I bought the mount for the bow? Could I turn the handle and hook it up to the front of the boat? What else does a bow mount have that I would need...just curious....thanks again...

If you can figure out a way to mount it, all you need to do is turn the head 180 degrees so the handle and prop point at you. At the back of the boat the prop faces rearward while the handle faces forward.

You asked "what else". Striking a submerged object is always a hazard. The neat thing abut transom mounts (at least the ones I had) were that they would kick up if you had the antireverse pin out.

If you bow mount it, you can take your chances, or may choose to use small pins in the bracket so that it could breakaway if you get it hung up.

Course most of the commercial bow mounts are succeptable to this too to varying degrees. Just a hazard of the trade.

Last thought is that the bow is usually much higher off the water than the transom, especially if the motor is mounted at the same level as the pusher engine. with that said, is your shaft long enough to get the prop adequately submerged to function ins reasonably high waves?

Good Luck,

Mark

The cheapest bow mount trolling motor (minn kota) is $350.00. A regular trolling motor (on ebay) is like ~$60.00. So a huge difference and gives a chance to retrofit something.
