Is it possible to upgrade yamaha 40 to 50

I have a yamaha betol 40 -91 and I have recognized that the 50 hp model is nearly the same engine as my 40 hp model. What is the difference between these engines? I would need the extra 10 hp to get on plane with more load onboard. Thanks for answers.

Cheaper to get yourself a lower pitch prop. After all the motor modifications, you'd notice little improvement (if any) and end-up buying that lower pitched prop anyhow.

Thanks for answer. There is stil one problem with my outboard cooling but I made a new topic for that.

I believe the carbs abd a prt in the exhaust are differant.<br /> A lower pitch prop will cut your top speed, but give you better loaded speed. Ad some HP the up puch the prop and have the best of both worlds.
