I have a 83' glasspar made by waitsboro. I'm new to the boating world and was wanting to know something!! It has a 3.8L V 6 OMC I/O powering it. Is there a way to take off the out drive and put on a mercruiser out drive?? If not what motor do I need to put back in the boat to make the mercruiser work like it was made to be in that boat?? I would like to stay with a V 6 or higher but no lower. Any help would be great!! THANK'S

Sure, just remove everything omc (including the engine) from the boat. Patch that great big hole in the transom (do it right) then install a Mercruiser setup.
EVERYTHING is different, you can NOT just swap outdrives.

Thank's Don S ! What type of mercruiser do you think I need for the boat. Im not up to date about this boat stuff! I dont know what size motor to get or size outdrive, and where to get a reasonable one at that! Plus where can I go to sell my OMC It runs and every thing , I just dont want it! Where can you get the stuff to turn a Chevrolet 350 into a boat motor and what outdrive

Impossible to answer, believe it or not, Glasspar made more than one model and size boat in 83.

Have you looked into what your project is going to cost you? You'll need a complete outdrive, transom assembly, probably new manifolds & risers, & shift cables. Plus you need to glass in the transom hole to accept the new setup. It ain't gonna be cheap. If you want to swap out the engine, it will really get expensive. Your boat is 25 years old. There's nothing wrong with that, but you have to decide if you want to sink that kind of dough into a boat of that vintage. I think you're best bet is to find out what you need & look for a donor boat with all of the above in good condition & do the swap.
