Is it worth it?

I have picked up a 1964 Super Seahorse 60 HP. It was put away sometime in the late 60's as the owner was told it is not fixable. I don't think so as it turns over fine, just has no spark. There is compression but i have not tested it. After searching for prices for rebuild parts, and the fact that I am moving from Maine to Tenn, is it worth my time to take this motor along and fix it? I am mechanically able, just not sure what it is going to cost and if I should just put a new motor on the old wooden boat it was on. Any advice would be appreciated.

"worth it" in terms of what it cost to fix, buy parts and move, compared to market value of the motor? no.

"worth it" for the pleasure of resurrecting an old motor, and having an old motor to match your old boat? maybe

"worth it" to end up with a reliable "daily driver" on your boat? no. much as I love old motors, comes a time and place where your reliability is more important. Unless you have others boats, being off the water on your leisure time is not worth it--which is why you need more boats!

Thanks for the advice, it confirms what I have been thinking. I do love to "fix" things. But this is more then I need as I am moving south. Anyone in the Maine area or along my path south want a fixer upper?

if it was a rbm, id say take it with you! but thats a big motor to be part of a move. should be no problem finding a new home for it tho.
