I have a friend with the same boat who wants the tank. Thinking of selling my 85 Ranger, and was wondering if selling it with the original tank adds a measurable amount to the value of the boat.

How much of the boat will you destroy to remove the tank? Some aren't so easy to take out and will cut the selling value.

Better yet - Sell your boat to your buddy. Tell him the trailer is worth the price.

welcome aboard

boat aint cars

not sure there is much appreciable value in a 34 year old boat much less one that has a questionable fuel tank.

This is going to sound obvious, so forgive that - if you're going to replace your gas tank before you sell, it's not a big deal. If you're going to try to sell the boat without a tank, it will make that a more difficult process and reduce the sale price of the boat.

You're going to remove your 23-year-old tank, sell it to your friend, then install a new tank and sell the boat? WHY???

Sell your boat, have your friend purchase and install his tank. The former makes absolutely no sense.

Typically a new tank is a selling point on older, larger boats. Particularly if they're cast or fiberglass. Aluminum tanks can oxidize and develop pin holes over time. I doubt you will recover any of the cost of parts and labor for the tank replacement.

Not sure why anyone would go through the trouble of INSTALLING a 23-year-old tank.

Changed my mind - I don't think it makes much difference since the transom is mulch. Your $2000 boat is worth less than you paid after finding the rotted transom wood.
