I am debating whether to have my stock prop (alum 14x23) refurbished and used for a spare or just go buy a new one for my spare? I would like to have a spare in the boat with me. Is there anything special about the stock mercruiser prop?
My new michigan prop cost me 97.00.

Thanks paul

To have a prop refurbished your looking close to the 90somethin you would spend for a new one...

But the new one.

Is the old prop just dinged up around the edges? I have repaired friends props for a fraction of what most shops would charge, and they've been quite happy with the results. Repaired slight dings to chunks knocked out.

Actually, they are quite "un-special". You may want to check ebay, you can usually find those pretty cheap in like new condition.

Are you happy with the performance of the old prop? Is the WOT RPM where it should be? I just would think that you could look at that when you are getting a new or used one. Maybe a little different pitch would be better. Have two props withe the same pitch is a little redundant. You might look at a little change to either improve the hole shot or a little better top end. Just a thought.. Good luck.
