Is my 98 Force 40hp Trashed?

I have a 98 force 40hp. I've been having some problems with it, but up until some unrelated electrical issues , it was running alright. Well, I decided to do a compression test before diving into the electrical, and I found that the top cylinder had low compression...about 85psi. I dropped a little bit of oil in the cylinder and the compression jumped to 115, which is where the other cylinder tested out at.

Does this mean my motor is trashed, and I should not waste money on electrical parts? Any guidance is appreciated. I just don't want to spend the money I could be saving up for a new motor, if this one is trashed.

No, it just means that one or both rings are stuck in their grooves. Try spraying in some solvent and turning the engine by hand, or add a little snake-oil (carbon treatment) to the gas and run it.

Thanks for the reply Frank. I was afraid that it meant it was game-over for this motor. I hope not as I like this motor, and it's been very reliable up until recently.
