Okay so I called the volvo penta online store and got part numbers for shims but it doesnt seem Im going to be able to get to .47mm exactly. The shims they have are .05mm-.1mm-.2mm-.3mm and .4mm and I already have the .4mm and .1mm not sure if I should go with this or if I should order a .05mm. I would think a little more clearance would be better than not enough as long as it seals but I am not sure about this so I was hoping someone withe some experience with this could steer me in right direction. Thank you for any help in advance.

You don't want to ad +6 you want to end up with +6 from 0
The +6 is to pre load the upper bearing so it will not spin in the housing or move under load.
Hope these load so you can see them.
By over shimming it allows you to measure to get to 0 once 0 is known you ad +6
That 41mm sounds like its to much.
I believe on mine AQ280 it is 0.2mm total all shims.

Thanks for reply Pat. I am having a hard time trying to get this measurement I even have tried to just take it to a shop to have it measured and have them get shims for me but no one will do it unless they put drive back together so I am going to have to figure this out. My old gear box was shimmed with one of the .4mm shims that I have. Now knowing the shim sizes I think I put 2- .4mm and a .2mm in to over shim as you said, that puts me at 1.0mm and i measured the space which was .61 so I subtracted the .61mm from the 1,0mm which comes to .39mm and if I am understanding you correctly that would get me to 0 so I then add ,06 to that to get shim size which would be .45mm sorry for all the same questions I am just trying to get this right so I can get back on water. Thank you again for all of your help.

Sorry man im finding your numbers confusing and it seams like to many shims??
