Is my Mariner a Yamaha?

1986 Mariner 40HP EL
ID NO 422195 2 Cyl.

I have a 7 pin wiring harness.
I think I have a Yamaha made outboard.. but I don't know for sure.

How can you tell? My Clymers manual talks about a 40, a 40a, and a 40b.
But of course there is no reference to what the heck the difference is?

It's a Yamaha. One easy way to tell is that Merc main harness plugs push together and that's all. The Yamaha main harness pushes together and has a locking collar you twist.
