motor smokes when i have it out of the water with the muffs hooked up its like black mist is this normal?? its a 85 hp merc around a 77 model i just got the boat and it runs but not real well<br /><br />thanks

Black smoke is bad. Smoke should be light gray to white.

comes out of where the prop is so black smoke is maybe to rich?

Crupi,<br /> Check the carburator floats and needle valves/seats.Unless your outboard is a diesel(kidding) there should be no BLACK smoke.Blue to gray is Ok.Black smoke out of the exhaust is un-burned gasoline.SO,either it's gettin too much gas(probable) or not enuff spark energy. Does it use alot of gas?

well i just got the boat it runs rough and i can get it to stay running but when i put in gear it stalls out.. they told me they cleaned the carbs maybe they got the settings screwed up

need help... could a bad diagham make it blow black somke and die under load friend at work was saing that could be the trouble?
