Hey Gang. I'm fairly new to boating. This will be my second full year on the water. The boat is a 16' v hull silverline fiberglass with a '78 120 hp omc I/O with a 400 stringer. The prop that came on the boat was a 13 1/4 x 17 that had a few dings on it. The boat had come with a rebuilt 13 3/4 x 15 spare prop. I was going to use the original prop as long as I could until I needed the new one but someone told me that I was going to take out some bearings by using the damaged prop. I have now put on the new prop and it seems to work really well but I want to make sure that I am not over reving my engine. With the new prop I am getting 4000 rpm maybe a hair over at wot. My memory might be failing me but I seem to remember the rpm's being much lower with the old prop. I think somewhere between 3000-3500. Can my engine handle 4000rpm?

Ayuh,... It Should be able to pull 4200 roms, at Wot, perfect conditions...

So, No, yer not hurtin' a thing...

If anything, the other prop is Lugging the motor...

+1.^^

You shouldn't use a prop that only gets you to 300-3500 rpm at WOT. That would most likely be lugging the motor - stick with the one that gets puts you at 4000.

Thanks guys. I'm happy to hear that news. The new prop works much better. The boat comes up out of the water way faster.
