I'm looking to buy a small kicker motor for my 1981 16' Lowe boat. I like to get a 5hp up to 10hp motor. I've been looking at the 8hp Nissan motor. I don't know anything about them. Another thing I want this motor for a future deep V boat upgrade. Would a 20" versus 15" shaft be practical, since I don't know want my future boat is? I appreciate any info or answers. thanks

No better or worse than anything else on the market and your putting the cart before the horse. Buy the engine after you get the boat.

With a kicker deeper (long shaft) is always better to keep a clean flow of water on the prop for good thrust

I agree, for a kicker a L/S is better, it can be mounted so the prop gets clean water and stays in the water during rough conditions, plus still keep the power head out of the water.
