Is there a cross-reference for engine and / or outdrive serial numbers?

Hi All,
I am having some problems with my unknown year Volvo Penta 5.0 GL something........ I cannot find the engine data plate / serial number to provide here in the forums. I did however find the outdrive data plate and serial number (4111665406). Did Volvo keep buildsheets showing which engine was coupled to which outdrive? I called CrisCraft. They are researching it looking for their buildsheets, but no answer yet. I called Volvo NA. They said they didn't have the buildsheets at the customer service center, but the parts people would. The parts guy that answered asked me for the part number of the buildsheet so he could look it up. I am guessing he really did not understand what I was asking.

In any case, does anyone know anyway to cross reference? I believe that what I have is a 5.0GLPWTxxxxx or a
5.0GLPEFxxxx based on comparing the components on it to the shop drawings in the SELOC manual (It seems to be a 1999), but I would sure like to know for certain......

No, they didn't. BUT, if it was registered correctly, you should be able to go to your Volvo dealer and they can plug the serial number of the drive, or even the HIN in and find what was installed originally in the warranty registration information at Volvo.

Did you look for a serial number tag riveted to the block on the port side, just aft of the oil filter housing? A digital camera helps if you can't get in there to look.

Hi Don....
While I was reading your reply, Chris Craft called back. He did just what you said. Looked on the Volvo registration database. I do indeed have a 50GLPEFS, serial number 4012021733. I will start a new thread with that info hoping for help with the next in the continuing saga of getting this engine back in shape and running well. Thanks again.

Is this the same engine and boat you were calling a GL-B in your other thread?

It was indeed. Again, That was what the decal on the plastic shroud over the spark arrestor said. Is it then like you expected, a GL-A ?

Nope, it's older than that. The A was the beginning of the red engine blocks, your EF is a 2000 model Volvo engine and Gray.

Now that you know what it is for sure, here are the REAL Oem service manuals, instead of those Seloc knee pads you have.
