Is there a way to test OMC tilt and tach gauges with a meter?

I have some gauges that I need to determine if they're good or not. I don't have the motor running or hooked up right now though. Is there a way I can test if the tach and tilt gauge are working with a basic volt/ohm/amp meter? Resistance values or something? Also the Tach needle seems to move all over the place when slightly shaken. Is that normal?

Your service manual will tell you how to check the trim gauge but it's got to be hooked up to the sending unit on the motor. For my '94 Johnson 150, in the fully down position my Ohmeter should read 88 and 1 in fully up position. I would imagine yours would be something similar.

As for the tach. I would guess that you would have to check with the manufacturer

Actually now that I think about it, what this is doing is actually testing the sending unit. I guess to check the gauge you could just hook up the sending unit and see if the gauge matches the position you turn it to.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Guys,

I'm going to get a manual. Do you think the Seloc one is good enough? I have a 1996 Johnson 70 2 stroke.
