Is there such a gauge?

Hi,

I just purchased a Panther Power Tilt and Trim for my 16' Grumman boat. Now i wanted to try and find a "leveling" gauge
that would show me if the trim should be adjusted in or out. If you know the name of this gauge, please let me know as I'm out of options to try and find one on here or eBay.

Thanks in advance.

You can get a tilt / trim gauge but, depending on the boat/motor combo many people find the "seat of their pants" most effective.

It's called a speedometer . . . I agree with Bob as trim is usually about ride so no way for a gauge to tell you that. Outside of ride the best indicator of proper trim is fastest speed for the throttle setting that moment ;)

Maybe you should tell us what conditions make you wonder if you are trimming properly. Sound like you might be doubting yourself.

A trim gauge tells you what the current trim setting IS. It cannot tell you what the correct trim setting should be for any given condition. There simply is no one-setting fits all. Load, water conditions, speed, all play a roll in what trim setting is best. As was mentioned your ears, the speedometer (to a lesser degree) and your butt can tell you when trim is good. Listen to the rush of water under the boat. When hear a very distinct quieting of water noise the boat has come nicely on plane. You test for best setting by playing with the trim. Get on plane, trim out -- then in and select the setting that provides the best ride for the speed you are going. You should see on the speedometer and feel in the seat of your pants, the increases and decreases in speed and boat attitude as you play with trim.

Another visual clue to the proper trim is to get trimmed out properly, then find where the spray is in reference to a spot on the deck. On my runabout, I use the side window as a gauge in addition to steering wheel feel. I have a trim gauge, but it's really only useful for seeing approximate drive position, not proper trim angle for a given speed.

I will 5th that, I got a CMC after market tilt trim and ponied up the extra $100 for the gauge and never ever even look at it.

After a trip or 2 you will jet get used to working it and you will be able to tell if you are trimmed to high or low, the boat will tell you what it wants not a gauge.

Also being aftermarket unless they put the sending unit on the TT there won't be anything to hook a guage to.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard Bob,... On a 16' boat, 'n outboard motor,....

Turn yer head abit, 'n Look at the motor...

There's No levelin' gauge on a boat, as boats are rarely to Never Level....

Proper runnin' Atitude isn't Level.... hence everyone's "Seat of the Pants" gauge remark...
