Is this a 2001 Volvo Penta 5.7 GXI?

I'm interested in a 2001 Cobalt. The Cobalt factory has confirmed that the HIN was originally built/equipped with a Volvo Penta 5.7 GXI. The current owner has sent me the attached engine picture and claims that it is the original engine in the boat.

Does anybody recognize this engine as a GXI version? The picture looks more like a V-P 5.7 GI, or even a GSI (300 HP version), but not a GXI. The GXI had a unique engine cover that doesn't look anything like what is on this engine.

I am specifically interested in the V-P GXI because of the higher 320 HP rating.

I cannot get the owner to take a picture of the engine serial number to confirm what engine this is, because he is 3 hrs away from the marina storage and the storage owner is unwilling to take the boat down from the rack just for taking pictures without charging a significant fee ... And I'm 10 hrs away ...

It doesn't have the fancy plastic intake with the Throttle Body located above cylinders 1, 2, 3, and 4, it has a 4bbl intake. The engine cover is missing its label/decal, what a coincidence...

I had an `02 GXI and it had the different engine top cover than the one shown in your picture, also I do not see a fuel rail in the picture. I`m not sure it is a GXI.

AFAIK, 2001 GXI's are TBI (Throttle Body Injection)? So no fuel rails ... They look like a carburetor set up?

If they made a major change to the GXI in 2002, then the HP rating is probably different.

I was under the impression that GXI denotes direct injection. GI is throttle body injection.

Maybe have him send you the full model and engine serial number, along with drive serial number and see if you can find some Volvo records to confirm or deny.
