Is this a gasket?

I have a 1967 mercury 110 9.8 I got with a boat a few weeks ago. It had been running great but just yesterday I had it out and it wasn't running like it usually does. I would have it wide open and it would suddenly start to bog down a bit. Not every time but every once in a while. And the engine noise just seemed different when I had it running wide open. I took the fuel line out and was gonna put new mixed gas in. I noticed the inside of the fuel hose was partially blocked by the plastic inside. But while I had the fuel tank out I noticed this gasket like cardboard shoved up by the engine. It was partly out so I just pulled it out and it was a folded up milk carton. Does anyone know if this was probably used as a gasket and what one it would be?

Not a gasket. I would bet that there was a rattle, and somebody got creative on the cheap.

Was it a white, chocolate, skim or buttermilk carton?

Of course it isn't a gasket unless it has a Merc part number on it.

Get a new fuel hose. The stuff blocking it is the liner which degrades from ethanol laced gas.
