is this a good deal on a ski boat??

alright so heres the deal i have come across a 1986 sierra supreme 22 foot ski boat with a 350 chevy engine with ONLY 65 hours on it... but it has been run in salt water a few times... the asking price is 5000 which i think is a heck of a deal ever since i started looking about a month ago... the thing is the salt water... is it worth the five grand or will it not be since it is somewhat old and has been run in salt water... 65 hours on the engine is way low for a 1986 and if it had never been run in salt water i would for sure snatch it up... here is my question?? should i snatch it up while i can and if i do what effect will the salt water have had on it, and what should i do to counter act it. should i even waste my time on it at all?? all help will be appreciated as always<br /><br />steve-0

I wouldn't worry about any salt damage, especially if it was flushed after being used. Give it good 'going over', run it on the muffs and see what rinses out of it. Salt is hard on the steel parts like the water pump impeller but it won't eat through cast iron in 65 hrs. If you buy it and will continue using it in the briny, consider a FWC system on it.

sk8wyatt,<br /><br />I'm thinking that that hoat is a direct drive inboard-correct?<br /><br />If it is, I doubt it was ever flushed.<br /><br />I still wouldn't worry about too much. More than likely, if anything is bad, it's the manifolds and/or risers.<br /><br />I would think that is a good price, even if it does need some work.

65hrs on a1986 ? i would be more worried about that being way off and more wear on motor than you know.

sk8wyatt - You don't give a lot of detail about engine and drive...but I love a deal, and think you've got one. There are a lot of seldom used boats out there that spend more time on trailers than sea trials so check it out. I would never buy something at a great price, find out it was a major problem and unload it on an unsuspecting buyer, I would blame myself for not doing complete due diligence. So in the name of justice and ethics....follow suit.
