I was told to mix my fuel abit rich cause of the age of the motor, is this a good idea or should I mix it perfect 50:1.

It's a 76 merc 700.

It seems to bog out on launch could this be my problem.

Leave it at 50 to 1, you need to know the those 3 cyls. were not known for torque. That being said you might ck carb adjustment and syncronization and if it's OK make sure your at MAX RPM at WOT.
