Is this a leak?

Hey guys just got my 65 9.5 johnson running prretty good and noticed this brown stuff after trying a decarb. I thought it was rust but cause it looks like its coming out of the bolt hole but it's also above that on the exhaust gasket. What you guys think? If I open it to look around i need to replace the 3 gaskets with new right?it seems to be running good just don't know if that could damage it. First post, Thanks for any help! Hope I'm in the right place

Try tightening the bolts before you take it all apart. Exhaust cover bolts can get loose all by themselves and, on the other hand, can be stuck so bad they will break off when you try to take them out. Looks to me like you may a few that are loose, so tighten them up first, it may save taking the whole cover assembly off and having to buy new gaskets.

Thanks, I'll try that in the morning. Hopefully that's all it is as money is tight right now and three gaskets would have to wait.

The decarb has probably dissolved old carboned gaskets. Re-tighten will not help, gaskets must be changed.

and get a REAL manual, you will need the torquing sequence and torque needed to get it right the first time ...............
