Is this a true statement?

"If you use an aftermarket shift cable, it will never adjust correctly as they are too short. About 1/4"."

This was a statement made to me by an old salty and I was just wondering if anybody else had heard of this?

If it were 1/4 inch short it woudn't work at all.I don't use aftermarket cables because of problems with the nylon/plastic guide end in the bell housing breaking off.

Also found cost was within $10.00,so I was saving,but buying aggrevation.
