new to me boat, home made trailer. Not sure I like how the boat sits at the front. Thinking of wrapping a pool noodle or rag and a ton of duct tape around the front of the trailer because I'm concerned it will damage the boat as you can see from the dent it already has. I'm not really sure why the roller is facing down in the first place. If i just wrap that whole post it should be ok, right?

Well, that's ugly. Yes, wrap it for a temporary fix, then cut off the mess and start over.

Cut that whole thing off, then weld or bolt up a proper bow stop/post.

Do you really need to ask? look at the damage already done to the hull. Like above--cut it off.

Not really no, but since it was a home built trailer I was entertaining the possibility that the retard with his welder maybe knew something I didn't. I'll wrap it all up for now, then this winter I'll cut it off and do it right.

Thanks guys

using the word retard is not proper. Not knowing how a bow stop works is another question.???

It's bent down because the jackass driving the boat came in hot and smashed it

Well that and whoever cut it and put it back together longer made it flimsy.

yeah I am not going to get into the whole PC thing albeit I do agree with the jackass thing, you could also add a few creative adjectives to describe the individual who thought he knew what he was doing in building this contraption but lets just say that if the above photos are any indication as to the engineering of the rest of the trailer, I think you should get a do over....

I can't imagine what the rest of the trailer and boat looks like.

The boats in the build section, but as far as the structur of the boat itself that is the only issue. There isn't really any other dents in the aluminum to speak of just bad paint and wood. The wood is almost replaced already and it will get stripped and painted this fall sometime.

I wouldn't have thought that the boat could have bent that, he must have powered on the trailer at a good clip.

Re: is this an issue?

I took the boat off the trailer and its just the dent. I will fix it when i have the cast deck off for new foam no big deal. Rest of the trailer looks solid and i drove it 60 miles home so i know it pulls well.

THe roller plate can be unbolted and flipped over which very well may solve the entire problem. Makes me wonder why its this way even more. Sunday im going to heat up the bolt with my torch and get it off. Worst case i will pad it or if i have time i will tow the trailer to my step dads and weld up a new stop.
