94' Quest Center Console, 22', 99' 200hp mercury optimax, galvanized dual axle trailer, lowrance graph and gps

The story behind this boat is the guy that is selling it bought it this past spring from a guy that had it sitting unused with gas in it for over a year. when he bought it, it was running but running rough. He supposedly had a mechanic clean fuel injectors and clean out gas tank. Well the guy only cleaned injectors, and then he ran it and everything got clogged again because of tank not being cleaned. He went a round with the guy, the police got involved, he had to pay 100$ to get boat back from impound or something, now hes just frustrated and wants to get rid of the boat. He paid 5600$, I asked if hed take 4000$ and he said yes. So is the boat worth it? Is it going to be a big deal to clean fuel system?

The motor would resale in my area for around $2600 but you need to to make sure that you dont have other issues .Cost of cleaning the fuel system depends on whats in it as stale gas wont clog up anything. If the fuel tank was damaged by ethanol and "melted" the hoses on fuel system and engine it could get pricey as to replace all the hoses and oetiker clamps on engine will run about $400. The fuel injectors can be sent off and cleaned(Brucato) but if engine has not been maintained and used in salt water the fuel rails are bad about eroding and failing. The most cause of failures is from corrosion and/or water intrusion on these engines.Only the port rail is water cooled but if it has a failure, water will pass through to the starboard fuel rail.A bad air compressor head seal can also force water into the fuel rails and this moisture can ruin the air injectors and rails and a set of rails (only way sold) is over a $1000. The new rails come with fuel injectors. This could be a good deal or become a money pit....

Correct me if I'm wrong outboard guys, but don't the optimax motors have a condition computer in them? What I mean, is I think you can hook a tester to them and show all the high revs etc that the motor had, including hours. I think if it does I would have the motor read by a qualified mercury mechanic before I thought about purchasing. The boat looks like it will clean up good, think it is probably a good deal at 4g.

I agree with the others. You need to make sure about that engine and not assume it will take a minor fix.

I was told by a guy this morning that injectors can't be cleaned they have to be replaced, costing up to 3k to clean from tank to all through motor, will that computer tell anything about what needs fixing n motor?

Yes and no ...it cannot tell you if a injector is bad as it does not monitor them(air/fuel) but it can tell you if sensor are out of wack or history. The person who told ya this is full of it. Tony and Linda at Brucato clean thousands of these injectors(air/fuel) and you might have one that is bad but it wont cost ya thousands$$$.They can clean/test all 12 for $520. Also check the VST tank as they can also be damaged by corrosion and if electric fuel pumps are damaged/bad they can get expensive also. It may be best to take it to a dealer and have checked/ estimate before buying...

This is a tough decision, I think the injectors were sent to that guy, but now they need cleaning again

For $4k, I think I'd be willing to take the gamble. That could be a steal.

That's what keeps it on my mind, it could be a steal! Im not mechanically inclined much on that sort of stuff. There is a guy I might could get to look at it with me that's a very good boat and auto mechanic. That would be the best place to start I think. As of now I do have a 19' 1987 sea lion cc, with a 88' 125 hp force I've had for 6 years, runs like a champ. I want something bigger, wider and a little more fuel effecient though.it would suck to buy it and sell mine and the thong cost a bunch of money to get running I don't have. I catfish every weekend and can't be down without a boat. Does anyone know turn around time if injectors are sent off to that place?
