First off thanks to the forum members for being good people.

Secondly the 9.9 seahorse has a compression of 30 after four pulls. The other cylinder has a compression reading of absolutely nothing. I guess that means its junk, right? Should I even bother tearing it down and investigation? I do not know the history of the motor.

Thanks.

It is possible that the motor may have overheated and blown the cylinder head gasket. Why not take the cylinder head off and investigate?

Most of the 9.9 line are good motors and in demand - hard to tell more without a model number.

That's strange that you're getting incredibly low or nonexistant compression readings. Are you sure your gauge is working right? I've had a motors that was for sure junky with a bad piston and scored cylinders and it still had 65lbs. of compression. Is there a hole in the block? IF not, I'd definitely do like Ezeke said and take the head off and inspect your cylinders and pistons. Heck, it's unlikely but possible it could be a relatively cheap fix.

I just took the head off and a piece of a ring fell out. Whats next?
