Is this motor salvageable or not worth the time

So I found a sweet little JW-14 a 1958 I believe. Clean little motor original decals newer coils. I cleaned the tank new plugs and fuel filter and it fired right up. The sad part is I never made it to the water with it. On the way to the reservoir my boat flipped out of the back of my truck due to a section of road that was horribly patched up. Side note they are repaving that whole stretch now not just patching it.

Anyways this is the shape of the motor now. It looks like just the lower housing was broken off. Nothing internally looked broken. I'm just curious if it's worth messing with or just scrap for what's left. I only had $75 in the motor but it's more a pride thing at this point

Here's the pictures. Let me know what you think. Any input is appreciated. Also a list of what I would need to fix it would be awesome. I have the lower cowl piece

Looks like it was a clean break at the midsection to powerhead joint. If you can track down a midsection, you're in business. Check the driveshaft for straightness, though, as it may have taken a hit, too.

It does look like a midsection will fix you up if the driveshaft isn't bent. Also look at the end of the crankshaft and water tube, they may have been damaged when the "separation" occurred.

Next time tie the boat down. It all can't be blamed on a stretch of bad road.

Where the neck of the midsection comes out of the steering bracket, it looks as if that was half broken before as it's bright and shiny for 180 degrees but dull and brown for the rest. Could just be the angle of the picture.

Ok so three questions and a statement. First the boat was tied down. The same way it always was. I've used that boat with a small trolling motor for years.

Question 1: The midsection you speak of is the housing piece that connects the motor to the rest of the number 12 in this diagram. I assume I will also need part 17 also. https://www.marineengine.com/parts/...manufacturer=Johnson&section=Lower+Unit+Group

Question 2: I'm assuming there is a drive shaft that goes from the motor down. I didn't look that closely but considering it is not in the motor. It's likely elsewhere. I didn't look but it's probably not in the lower housing would it be?

Question 3: What years and or models would interchange with this motor? I'm going to try to find some used parts online

With all that damage, and so many parts needed, you might just sell it for parts, that is unless you want a project more than you want a running motor.

These motors are very common. Finding a junker with what you need shouldn't be difficult. I believe any of the 3s from Evinrude or Johnson from the mid 1950s on up to the early 1960s will work. By the mid 1960s they were tweaking the motors a bit, adding different water outlets, changing the clamp brackets, etc. so there is likely some variation by that point.

Sounds like you may have lost the driveshaft in the commotion. It may have just pulled out of the lower unit. If you can go back to the scene of the crime, you may find it rolled off the side of the road. Water tube doesn't appear to be present either. If you find a complete lower end, it'll have what you need. They're among the best motors OMC ever built, so in my opinion, it's worth getting going again, especially since you've already put a little time and effort into getting it going.

A quick search for "johnson 3hp mid" on eBay turned up a mid housing - even the right color! - for $35.00.
