This motor looks too low to me... but this is how I see many boats setup.

Any one shed some light on this situation?

Thanks!!!

Yes. Anti ventilation plate should be even with the bottom to 1 to 1-1/2" above. That is a couple of inches below.

The photo is in violation of our size rule, so I have to delete it. Resize it to 640X480 or smaller.

You betcha Dude! Looks like a long shaft motor on a short shaft transom. Motor came from a pontoon possibly????

Re: Is this motor too low?

i thought it better to be lower for these old motors because they have a higher water pump? non jet prop exhaust.

because many beginners just get a boat and then go get a motor and slap them together and the boat moves and they are happy!!

I never replaced a water pump in my first twenty years of boating!!!, and I never had a carb rebuilt, or repalced a fuel filter... and I was always starting my motor on the trailer out of the water while still in the parking lot, to make sure it started before I put it in the water..

but that doesnt mean it is right....people get away with stuff sometimes

Re: Is this motor too low?

as others have said, that is a long shaft motor on a transom designed for a short shaft motor.

Re: Is this motor too low?

From what I have always seen the smaller OMC outboards that were not thru hub exhaust ALL had the extention between the midsection and the gearcase.

So I would quess that this is a short shaft 25hp OMC of the mid 70's and that transom is shorter than 15".

Re: Is this motor too low?

my 76 25hp evinrude looks to be the same model/similar year as that one and its the same on my boat, the transom is lower and the cav plate rides about 2 inches low.

there is a additional 5" spacer shown in the manual for this motor. would make it REALLY long.

Oh and like this boat shown probably is, my boat is rated for 15 hp. the motor is too long and also overpowered.
