Do you trailer the boat? Post a pic of a side view of the transom, showing the relative height of the prop/cavitation plate on the lower unit to the bottom of the hull.

It looks like you should raise the motor ,maybe an inch; while you are running look over the transom at the lower unit and note how far in the water it is. You can put a piece of wood under the clamp bracket to hold it up. Make sure that you have at least two bolts in the clamp bracket and the thumbscrews are tight.
Looks like you could also trim it out a notch.

thanks! by trim it out a notch...that means moving the pin behind the motor towards the boat or away from the boat right? now the pin is kinda in the middle ( of all the holes that it can be in.)

If you move the pin away from the transom the boat will ride bow higher and go faster, if you move it towards the transom it will ride bow down with a loss of speed and performance. It's really a trial and error procedure but don't put it out too far or the motor may over-rev and lose cooling water intake.

i will play with it this weekend. i think i need to move it out. the motor is a 95 hp and the boat will do only 25 mph. i thought it would do better, maybe this is why. thanks again.

Do you have a tach? Sounds like a prop problem as well.

i do not, i replaced the starter and "magic" switch box, regapped the points and i somehow lost the tach. all the wires are hooked up correctly, i think. are you saying a prop problem because of speed? or the sound of the motor. i dont think i am at wot even though the forward lever is all the way forward with no more travel. it sounds like it should rev a little bit more, i might be wrong though,( im just watching other tower of power engines on youtube and they sound like they rev a little higher. im sure it needs a new prop.

if you look at the cavitation plate on your foot for peak performance it should be about level with the bottom of the boat and yes it sounds a little low rpm max rpm should b e around 5400 or 5500 at wot
