Is This Normal

Pulled boat out of garage yesterday to let run on muffs after being winterized and noticed when running, water was pumping out on both sides as it should but, was also coming out of a hole right behind where spedo hose attaches to lower unit. Is this a relief valve or something and is this normal? It wasn't streaming out more like spudering out. This is my first alpha 1 Gen 11. I have had alpha 1 Gen 1 before but never noticed it was coming out in that spot on other boat.

Normal, that hole is there to allow water to drain from the exhaust cavity to prevent potential damage from freezing.....
They often clog & that is why it is wise to store your boat with the drive in the 'down' position.......;)

Thanks alot. I was pretty sure that it was normal but just wanted to be sure that there was nothing wrong before i put it in the water for the first time this season.

Yes, completely normal.

It's also a place for water to get into the boat if the Y-pipe either has a hole in it due to corrosion or the O-ring is leaking etc.

If the boat is sitting in the water the y-pipe always has water in it even with water line.

Cheers,

Rick

The exhaust Y-pipe.

I suppose I didn't make that very clear.....(my wife says that a lot!)

When the boat is sitting in the water (engine not running), the Y-pipe has water in it at about the same level as the waterline.

If the O-ring where the Y-pipe connects to the gimbal is leaking, or there's a hole (in the y-pipe) due to corrosion below the water line, water will enter the bilge.

I'm wondering what does the drain hole in the drive have to do with the y pipe?.....

Well,

Evidently we're not talking about the same area. I took "behind where spedo hose attaches to lower unit" To loosely mean the area actually in the gimbal area right under the exhaust bellows on both sides where exhaust and water exits..... (and OK! I didn't fully read the question!)

I actually had to go out and verify that those "holes" are actually in the transom on my Bravo (and not in the Cobra I have sitting on the floor!) I thought I was losing it! (although I may still be!!)
