Managed to remove my prop from my old drive even though it had a prop lock installed. I have a complete new drive on the way and I want to be sure Im not going to abuse it with a bad prop. This has hit bottom a couple times. I have filed it smooth before. Kind of looks partially spun but I really don't know what im looking at. Is there a method some shops can use to remedy this old thing or should I buy a new one? Or. does it seem okay? Let me know what you think. I need to order a new prop nut assembly so I will get a new prop if need be.

Joe

Joe, it could use a re-furbishing but I don't see why you would need to replace it. To have a prop "re-furbished" by a reputable dealer usually costs 1/2 of what a new one does and they add and subtract metal, re-shape it to perfect balance and buff it back to new appearance.

Do they actually put it on a balancer?

Yes absolutely. Again they do if reputable. I just had both my stainless props re-furbished and even with twin 350 mpi mags going at 60mph there is zero vibration.

What caught my eye was in pic #5 around the top outside of the center of the prop there are a couple pieces that look to be partially broken off or ground down along with a bunch of little dings on the blades that could potentially through it out of balance.

As said have it redone and balanced. I have twin duo-props and had them done at North Coast Prop Tech in Huron Ohio. The railing's used to have a little vibration to them and now they don't. Highly recommended.

+1 on the balance and refurbish, its something I wouldn't take a chance on with a new lower unit.

I see nothing to suggest there is really anything wrong with it other then a few dings that need to be cleaned up but a blade could be bent out of balance and you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at it.

not all shops are the same so check around and make sure you use a shop that does things right and doesn't take shortcuts, some shops don't test for balance of the props

It would only let me upload 5 pics. Here is the last one I was going to post. Shows the worst blade.
