While that one will work, you will also have to get a negative buss bar for all your negative wires, or get the same type of fuse block but with a built in negative buss.

Here is a better picture showing one without the cover so you can see how it's setup.

How do I wire from my battery to the fuse block? Is it just a simple pos/neg wire thing? If so, what gauge wire do I need?

Yes, just a pos and neg wire, for that size block, you should use a 30A fuse and 10ga wire for the 2 main runs. The fuse would be near the battery to protect the wiring.

*They also make those fuse panes with only 6 circuits instead of 12.

I own the model 5026 with cover. The diagram and installation instructions put together well. Haven't attempted the install as Don S can tell ya from my threads its a mess right now ;) but soon to be ironed out. But wanted to comment and give ya the documentation stuff

$26 for a fuse holder. Yikes.

I'd like to keep the cost to a minimum.

The holder has 10ga leads and is for the AGU size (3/8 x 1-1/2) fuses, NOT the little 3AG (1/4 x 1-1/2) glass fuses you commonly see.
All the current for the 12 fuses on the fuse block will be passing through this one fuse.
This is the "Master Breaker" so to speak.
A 30 amp fuse holder is likely not one you see everyday.

In this case, attempting to keep "Cost at a Minimum" will be "Keeping Risk at the Maximum."

Time to just bite the bullet! :)

I need to buy just one of these...or 2?

I'm only running nav lights, fishfinder, and possibly led interior lights, and power outlet thru this system....how much danger could there really be?

I'm running my trolling motor straight to a separate battery.

Fuses are there to protect the wiring, and are located at the beginning of a run, the bulb is at the end of the run, and if that power wire going to the bulb gets shorted, what protects it? It hasn't got to the bulb, or pump or whatever.
That 30A fuse holder does nothing but protect the wiring going to the fuse panel. nothing else.
