Today I got the Johnson 10 hp home.
Model QD19 serial no 247276. Is it a 1958 model?
But is this the right forum for old iron? Doesn't most of you want to talk about modern 100+ hp super motors instead of old clunkers?
Are there an "vintage" or "classic" site somewhere that I am supposed to sheer into

Re: Is this the right forum?

There's a strong community here for '50s - 70s Johnny/Rudes, which seem to last forever. Lots of people running them - just have a quick look at the J/E repair forum. The AOMCI (Antique) folks don't seem to care much for post WW-II outboards.

Johnsons and Evinrudes from this time frame are normally identical except for the covers. Rooting through my bookmarks, here's a couple links for you:

1958 10hp Evinrude site (Popup blockers on FULL!)

1958 Johnson Catalog from

The old OMC Site.

Cheap, simple, easy to work on, reliable beyond all belief. Who cares about 100+HP engines if you can have more fun with less? When I go out, I don't have to obsess over the price of gas, or how much that new powerpak set me back. Put it on a light enough hull and it'll go fast. Won't be pulling any skiers though. :D
