Looking for a few opinions here on a deal I'm considering. Here's the story:
I recently bought a 1997 Fisher Pro Avenger 16' with a 40 HP Force from the original owner. Everything is low hours, very clean (always garaged), and runs well. The boat is rated for 75 HP and I think it could use something closer to that.
I found a dealer about 400 miles away who has a 1996 70 HP Force. They say they have to do a few things to it and then it would be equivalent condition to my 40. The first deal they offered me on trade is the 40 + $1495. I think the controls on the boat (Quicksilver 3000 Classic) will work with the 70 otherwise they have the controls for it also.
I realize prices vary across the country but this sounds like a little too much cash to me. Seems to me that I could sell the 40 outright for $700 or so and put that with the $1500 to buy a mid to late '90's Merc or OMC and be better off. Do you guys have any input on this?
