I'm going to look at a 1996 Evinrude 30hp motor tomorrow for $795. Is this a fair price if I see no major issues with it?

tough question, in my area the smaller motors (15hp and under) go for big bucks, and the bigger ones are 3 or 4 hundred. my thoughts on that motor is $500, considering the jb weld \tig weld etc. for 795$ you should be able to "test drive it".

Agree completely. $800 is a price for a perfect motor.
