Re: is this worth trying to fix up?
Anything is possible, but when you ask
'is it worth it?' EXACTLY what do you mean?
Is it worth the time, effort & money to make it seaworthy & safe for your family to use. Sure......
Is it going to be worth the money & time (your labor) in the end to recoup all of your money including the $800 purchase price. No probably not, more to the point perhaps half.
It looks like a nearly 30yr old boat. Sure, you've rebuilt it from stem to stern, torn down to the bare hull & completely redone, but it's still not a $10K runabout. Even if you put $10K into it. Boats don't work like old, rare, collector cars. More often then not they're just old.
HOWEVER, if you choose to rehab this $800 boat, and spend $2200 doing it, maybe a little less, or you could certainly spend more, you'll have a boat that will safely & reliably provide great boating seasons for a very long time. It will also be significantly 'better' & safer then 95% of the boats for sale in your market for 1.5-2times as much. So w/ your 'free' labor, you've gotten a boat that can't be
replaced for what you've spent.
So, do
YOU think it's worth it?
Only you know you're boat rebuild funding & location situations. Your access to tools & materials or help when you need another set of hands & eyes. Your ability to overcome the obstacles as they come (and be aware they will come).
Read thru some of the resto threads, you'll quickly see what's involved & what's necessary to rehab an older fiberglass boat.
Being here 1st, asking questions & poking around will help you make better, more informed decisions when you find a boat you're interested in.
If you can get the seller to send pix, post them. It's always a huge help to see what you're seeing..........
Welcome to the iboats dry dock...
There's an android photobucket app, but I'm not familiar w/ how it works, but many of us use Photobucket to upload pix:
And post them IN our reply, not as attachments that must be opened.........
