Is water supposed to come out of the hole where the impellerrod enters the lower

Water tested my 89 20HP motor with the muffs on. Got water from the top end, out the little hole on the side of the lower end, but also from the hole where the impeller rod runs from the top to the bottom end. running out of there pretty good. Is this because of the pressure of the water being pushed into the lower end? <br /><br />Thanks in advance.
